Announced on Nova 969 this morning, Fitzy & Wippa are all for the Australian Marriage Equality’s ‘I Do’ campaign.
The breakfast radio hosts revealed their support during their show this morning, and heard from listeners who also supported their view. Chris from Darlinghurst called and said that it felt wrong to have to go overseas to marry. He also went on to say that it’s inevitable for Australia to accept same sex marriages eventually, and he wants to get married in the country he loves and lives in.
Fitzy & Wippa join many other Australian entertainers, sporting personalities and politicians alike with their support of this campaign, among them Hugh Jackman, Daniel Macpherson, Magda Szubanski, Megan Gale & Guy Pearce.
Said Fitzy & Wippa “For us this isn’t about Marriage Equality, it’s simply about Equality. We’re proud to support the “I Do” campaign and do whatever we can to bring about equality for all Australians.”’
Marriage equality advocates have this week also welcomed support from Cabinet Minister, Joe Ludwig, who has become the twenty ninth senator to declare support for marriage equality, meaning only ten more votes are needed for a Senate majority.
Mr. Greenwich, National Convener Australian Marriage Equality said "Only ten more votes are needed for the Senate to pass a reform that will strengthen families, provide couples with greater security, and fulfill the aspirations of a clear majority of Australians". Mr Greenwich continued, "I am confident support in the Senate will continue to grow with other key figures set to join Senator Ludwig in opening their hearts and minds to the importance of this reform."
To encourage undecided senators Australian Marriage Equality has launched a new online campaign to enable supporters of marriage equality to quickly and easily write to their undecided Senators. The campaign was launched yesterday, and has already seen 10,000 emails being sent to undecided Senators.
Fitzy & Wippa can be heard on NOVA 969 6-9am weekdays and 6-7pm weeknights.
