After an exhaustive search across the globe, Nova 106.9 has finally found their new family member.
Jay Walkerden will join the Nova Brisbane team as the station Program Director.
Group Program Director – DMG Radio Australia Paul Jackson said “We are delighted that someone of Jay’s quality and experience is joining the Nova team. Brisbane is in for a fun ride!”
Having spent over 4000 days working in the medium, some people call Jay a well experienced industry professional; others (mainly Jay) would say he is a well travelled, radio groupie.
Jay commenced his career in Perth at 92.9FM as a roadrunner and bosses soon recognized his talents extended far beyond working the streets.
Jay was given an on air role and worked all shifts from breakfast and beyond. Jay then discovered his passion for producing and swapped sides from behind the microphone to working behind the on air team.
Jay was lured back to the microphone with a breakfast gig at a competitive station but missed the pressure of producing so took up an offer to join Fox FM in Melbourne in 2002 as their assistant Program director.
Jay then moved back to the city and station that started it all taking up the Program Director role at 92.9 for a period of two years. When the big smoke beckoned, Jay left the West Coast to join 2Day FM becoming the Assistant Program Director in Sydney.
After a couple of years with Austereo, Jay’s next stop was the UK joining the GCap Media group as Program Director for Power FM. He concluded his overseas experience as Regional Team leader for Global radios Heart sand Galaxy stations, and with a new life partner, Katie and twin girls.
Jay moved back to Australia in September, 2010, taking up the position of Group Programming Director of MCM Media.
Nova 106.9 General Manager Sean Ryan is delighted with the new appointment and said, “Jay is someone that knows every aspect of the radio business. He brings great experience, fresh ideas and passion for programming. We’ve got the right person in the chair to take us forward into an exciting future.”
Jay is 40 years old, has three children; Benjamin (10), Amelia and Holly (3), a fiancée Katie and when not reading Dora the explorer to the girls or playing Xbox with his son, he enjoys a glass of wine, guitar, good food …and listening to radio!
